4.3 Outside Run: Strong Pace

First time out in 6 days. Felt great with strong start. Had a side stich at mile 3 which was a drag, but overall felt great to run again. Good conditions at about 40 degrees and dry.

7.4 Outside Run: Brrr, cold…so, just GMI

GMI = Get the Mileage In.

Even if you don’t want to work out, sometimes you just have to say “I’m going to Get the Mileage In.” It may not be a great pace, it may not feel exhilerating…but you are going to get the workout in and stay on track.

I enjoy exercise…I like getting ready to run or ride, I like actually doing it, and I feel great afterwards…most of the time. I realize not everyone enjoys it that much so I consider myself lucky. However, like everyone, there are some days where it is a massive feat to get out there. Today was one of those days.

Really cold here today. Right about freezing. Cold last 2 days as well so I had not run. My goal is to never take more than 2 days off in a row so I needed to get out. Took some urging to get motivation up. Didn’t look at my watch, didn’t push pace, just had a good, comfortable run. Told myself that it wouldn’t set any records but at the end of it I’d put down 7.4 miles in the logbook and be ready tomorrow or Sunday.

4.4 mi Outside Run: Strong Throughout

Unfortunately, my training window kept shrinking due to work demands. Thus, distance kept shrinking. Made most of it with quick pace. Good conditions: low 40s and sunny.

3.3 mi Outside Run: Warm but Raining

Planned an off day, but just felt like I had to get out and run a bit today. Went out in light rain and finished in heavy rain blowing sideways…at least it was warm.

7.1 mi Outside Run

Warm and damp. Solid pace throughout, started better than I finished. For some reason, when I reverse the direction on my 7.1 mile loop I lose a minute off my time, must be the change in hills or something.

7.1 mi Run Outside: Chilly but felt great

Well…my roller coater training week continues where one day is great and the next not so much. So far I had a good run, lousy run, great run, lousy bike, and today a terrific run. Chilly (low 40s) but sunny. After the lousy bike ride yesterday I briefly considered running a shorter loop but felt good after a mile so went for the 7.1 loop. Early pace was stronger than usual, midway felt slower but splits still strong. Finish was all uphill and challenging but felt good at end. Pace of 7:54 is first time under 8 mins on this loop, very pleased with that.

20.5 bike: cold, windy, slow, tough…ugh

Went out for 20 miles on the bike. Cold (40) and windy. Felt like a solid ride but all my split times were slow, last 5 miles was grueling, felt completely drained. Not to mention my toes were numb for last 20 minutes. Finished about 9 minutes slower than typical for the loop…wind had something to do with it but everything just felt slow. I had hoped to bike through the winter on dry days but not sure I am ready for many more rides like this one…we’ll see. It has been a peculiar training week overall. One good run, followed by a lousy run, followed by a great run, followed by a slow ride.

6 mi Outside Run, Cold and Fast, 7:51 pace

Interesting week of running. After a week off, went out with a solid 7 miler last Wednesday at an 8:01 pace; two days later I cut a planned 7 miler short at 4.5 due to general fatigue mostly due to a chest cold, came back today with my best 6 mile training run in a long time at a 7:51 pace feeling strong throughout. Hoping I can come back on Weds with another strong one now that the cold is mostly gone.

4.5 mi Run Outside, Tough Workout

Been fighting a head cold all week. Managed to have a great 7 mile training run 2 days ago. Had to force myself out today. Decent start but really struggled after first couple of miles. Felt drained from the cold. Oh well, back at it on Sunday!

7.1 mi Outside Run, Best Training Time Yet

I hadn’t run for a week due to business travel and spending a long weekend in Disney World which featured good food and drink but not so good for conditioning (lots of walking and child carrying though). Fighting a cold today and trying to muster up the drive to run, finally got out on my 7.1 mile loop. Felt great at the start but always do after a layoff - it’s the distance that usually bites me after time off. Finished strong with 8:01 pace which is my best training pace on the loop. Goal is to consistently keep it under 8 mins per at that distance. Great run, feel great now. Ready to go again tomorrow.
